Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Basrah Journal of Date Palm Research is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. The journal follows the guidelines and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1. Duties of Authors
Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. If the authors have used the work and/or words of others, this must be appropriately cited.
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must submit only original work. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
Multiple or Concurrent Publication: Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal.
Acknowledgement of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.
Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors should disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works:If an author discovers a significant error, it is their obligation to promptly notify the journal editor.
2. Duties of Editors
Editors are responsible for deciding which of the submitted articles should be published.
Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit, without regard to race, gender, or affiliation.
Confidentiality: Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors must not use unpublished materials for their own research without written consent.
Publication Decisions: Decisions should be based on the manuscript’s importance, originality, and clarity.
3. Duties of Reviewers
Peer reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions.
Confidentiality: Manuscripts must be treated as confidential documents.
Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively, and observations should be clearly supported by arguments.
Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited.
Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should decline review if they have conflicts of interest.
4. Peer Review Process
The journal follows a double-blind peer review system, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review process.
5. Ethical Oversight
The journal is committed to ethical oversight, including:
Protection of research participants
Ethical treatment of experimental biological materials Compliance with institutional and international research standards
6. Data Access and Retention
Authors may be asked to provide the raw data of their study for editorial review and should be prepared to provide public access where possible.
7. Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright of their work. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
8. Archiving Policy
The journal ensures digital preservation through systems such as PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) or similar archiving services.
9. Handling of Misconduct
In cases of suspected misconduct, the journal will follow COPE guidelines, including investigation, communication with authors, and possible retraction or correction of published articles.
10. Complaints and Appeals
Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions. Complaints should be submitted to the editorial office and will be handled transparently and fairly.
